International travellers want to experience the best of the North with ease and peace of mind. Tailored Adventures Rukapalvelu’s development programme, co-funded by the European Union, is moving ahead—and more exciting changes will become visible this autumn.
The largest investment to be completed this autumn is the expansion of Rukariutta. The 24 apartments currently under construction will add 120 new beds and are scheduled for completion in November 2026. Once the expansion opens, Rukariutta will offer a total of 42 apartments accommodating up to 228 guests. Advance bookings for the new apartments are already open.
“Additional capacity is particularly important for international tour operators, who plan their programmes well in advance and need enough high-quality accommodation for larger groups. The new apartments will also serve domestic event visitors. For example, visitors to the Ruka Nordic competition weekend can book accommodation and three-day event passes together at an affordable package price. During Pipolätkä, Ruka’s recreational ice hockey event, Rukariutta is also an excellent accommodation option for larger teams,” says Pasi Mäenpää, Farnorth Executive.

Long-Term Development, One Step at a Time
In addition to accommodation and restaurant services, the development programme extends to Rukapalvelu’s wilderness camps and activity venues. At locations such as Pohjanseita, Forest Spa, Kammi, Datza, Hippa and Pohjantähti, the northern landscape, local food, sauna traditions and stories lie at the heart of every experience. For international groups, however, seamless transport and reliable scheduling are just as important.
Tourism does not operate in a vacuum. Seasonality has long been one of the industry’s main challenges, but businesses must now also contend with increasingly unpredictable weather and global uncertainty. In the age of social media, travel trends can change direction overnight. Every investment therefore requires not only courage but also the ability to adapt.
“One of the biggest challenges facing tourism in Finland is fragmentation. Small, disconnected products are offered to international tour operators—and to travellers who may already find it difficult to place Finland on the map, let alone understand that Helsinki is still a long way from Lapland,” Mäenpää explains.
Rukapalvelu’s response is a commitment to long-term development. The objective is clear: to better meet the needs of groups brought to the region by international tour operators and to create tailored packages that work reliably throughout the year.
The Farnorth brand guides the company’s international communications. It represents an authentic Arctic setting that feels distinctive and exotic while remaining easy to reach and experience.
