Snowmobile safaris in Ruka

Set off on a two-hour snowmobile ride through the winter landscapes of Kuusamo, then warm up beside an open fire.
Your adventure begins at Rukapalvelu Gear House in Ruka, where you’ll be fitted with winter equipment before a transfer to our wilderness camp. After driving instructions from your guide, you’ll head into the snowy forest. Along the way, we’ll stop at a wilderness shelter for roasted sausages, sandwiches and traditional campfire coffee.
Campfire snacks and transportation from the meeting point in Ruka are included. If you’d like to drive for the entire safari, you can choose your own snowmobile.

Enjoy a guided snowmobile adventure across the varied winter terrain of Kuusamo. This safari is suitable for first-time drivers and families who want to experience snowmobiling together.
After meeting at Rukapalvelu Gear House, you’ll travel to our wilderness camp. Your guide will introduce the basics of driving before you set off on a snowmobile ride of approximately one hour.
Young children can join the family adventure in a sleigh towed by a snowmobile. We recommend that an adult rides with small children in the sleigh.

Experience the snowy forest after dark on a guided evening snowmobile safari. Away from the lights of Ruka, you can admire the northern sky as you ride—and, if conditions are right, you may see the Northern Lights.

The evening begins with equipment fitting at Rukapalvelu Gear House and a transfer to our wilderness camp. Your guide will give you driving instructions before leading the group through the forest. No previous snowmobiling experience is needed. Northern Lights sightings depend on the weather and cannot be guaranteed.

Drivers must be at least 15 years old and hold a valid driving licence of at least category T. Bring your licence with you: our guides check every driver’s licence before departure. To ride as a passenger on a snowmobile, you must be at least 140 cm tall and able to place your feet firmly on the footboards. Younger children can join the Family Snowmobile Safari in the towed sleigh

Register by 4 p.m. on the previous day. Each excursion requires a minimum of four adults. If the minimum is not reached by 4 p.m. on the previous day, we’ll cancel the excursion and refund your payment.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is prohibited. The driver is responsible for damage to the snowmobile; the maximum self-liability in an accident is €1,500.
